That has usually been a strength.
But ideas have a slightly uncomfortable side.
A new idea is almost always more exciting than the project you have already been working on for six weeks.
The new idea has no flaws yet.
No difficult clients.
No delays.
No tedious implementation details.
It is perfect because it still exists mostly in your head.
It is tempting to call this entrepreneurial thinking.
Sometimes it is.
But sometimes the new opportunity is simply a very elegant way of avoiding the next difficult step in the old project.
So I have started asking new ideas:
Are you an opportunity, or are you a distraction?
They do not always answer straight away.
